My Story – The beginning (part 1)

Before hattrick, Football management (game :) ) is nothing new to me. During my university days I was introduce to 1-0 created my Wizard Games of Scotland which has taken many of my life hours supposedly to be devoted to my studies. Maybe none of you has encountered this game before as it was a really old games, and uses text to show its football match. Wizard Games also release Goal, an national team football management game. This is the first place, where I can find Malaysia beat England.

Not enough with vs AI (artificial intelligence) game, my friends and I use to camped in my room to play against each other. So ‘real’ was our cheer when one of our roomates actually tought we were watching ‘real’ football. Championship Managers, Premier Managers and Player Managers soon added to the list of expenses which was suppose to be for books.

Still not enough, I discovered from football magazine that there are PBM (Play by Mail) games, which I shortly subscribe. It must have cost around GBP1, per week plus some stamps to post and received your instructions. For those of you not exposed enough, this was during the early day of internet, PBM games dominate. You play 1 game per week, sending your instructions via mail, yes, snail mail!! You can also call (using payphone) to negotiate on buying and selling of players. Come to think of the old days, hattrick must be much simpler. :)

My venture in PBM was quite successful, I won my league in the first season and was later voted by other manager to manage….. SCOTLAND!!

Unfortunately good things have to come to an end, soon I need to go back to Malaysia, and my carrier has to be cut short.
(to be continued: Next – back to the land of golden opportunity)
